A Practical Guide to Slowing Down, Listening for God, and Taking the Next Step

This is not a challenge to complete perfectly — no streaks, no pressure, no proving anything.

Think of this like a menu, not a checklist. Some days you need rest. Some days movement. Some days quiet. Some days people.

Start small. Healing often begins with small acts of staying alive.

DAILY RESET

Options for daily rhythms

REFUEL

  • Drink more water.

  • Eat real food, not just caffeine and stress.

  • Go to bed earlier — take a nap without guilt.

  • Relax your shoulders. Unclench your jaw. Breathe deeply.

SLOW DOWN

  • Take a walk. (Walk slowly for 10 minutes. No podcast. No agenda. Just walk.)

  • Drive slower. Walk slower. Eat slower. God doesn’t drive exhausted people harder.

LOWER THE NOISE

Create space for silence. Turn off notifications, background TV, or endless news. Pause for five minutes after the workday before entering the house.

LISTEN FOR THE WHISPER

Sit quietly for 2 minutes.

No perfect prayer. No pressure. Just be with God.

Borrow a Verse

Read one verse slowly. Try: Psalm 34:18  •  Psalm 23:4  •  Matthew 11:28  •  John 11:4

Pray Honestly

“God, I’m exhausted” is enough.

Weekly Reset

Options for weekly rhythms

Attend Worship Weekly

Not because attendance earns God’s love — but because isolated people struggle to heal.

Zero-Screen Night

Put your phone away for an evening. No scrolling. No constant input. Let your brain breathe.

Family Night

Shared meal. Board games. A walk. Laughter. No pressure — just connection.

MONTHLY RESET

Seek First Worship Night

Thursday, June 4 •  7 PM

A powerful night of worship, teaching, and prayer as we seek God together. Slow down, breathe, and reconnect with God.

Throughout

Break the Freeze

Don’t try to fix your whole life today. Just do the next thing. One dish. One text. One walk. One prayer.

Let Someone In

Text a friend. Ask for prayer. Call a counselor. Stop disappearing. Healing grows in safe connection.

Encourage Someone Else

One text. One prayer. One encouraging word. Purpose often returns while helping someone else breathe.

Delete One Draining App

Even temporarily. Notice what makes you compare, scroll, brace, panic, or numb out.

WHEN YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED

Start smaller. Maybe today your next step is:

•  Drink water — take a shower — sit outside

•  Eat something nourishing — ask for help

•  Listen to worship music — breathe deeply — go to sleep

“The way out is through. And through usually happens one small step at a time.”
